Johannes Havinga / van Zweel
hi forum members I have been doing research in South Africa of the van zweel family for the past 5 years and have been able to establish that the family originated in the Netherlands. our forefather was actually called Johannes Havinga and he was from the farm Zweeloo in the province Drenthe in Groningen hence the name van zweel. thus far i have the following information:- a death notice from SA Archives for Schultatus Nicolaus Havinga van Zweel *22/6/1776,Zweeloo, Province Drenthe. he died 27/12/1861, Buitendact No43, Kaapstad South Africa. this death notice gives Johannes Havinga en Judit Tideman as his parents. the death notice also give Emil wilhelm van Zweel * +-1830 Hamburg, Germany, as the son of Schultatus Nicolaus van Zweel.
- Johannes and Judit had two other children e.g. Jan Rudolph Havinga * 28 Jun 1771 and Gesina Havinga * 10 Sep 1773
- Johannes' occupation is given in sensus forms as that of Predikant. it does not state which denomination
- Schultetus N Havinga van Zweel's occupation is given as a Medical Doctor on his death notice.
- did Schultatus qualify as a medical doctor in the Netherlands, who was his wife, when did they marry. did they only have this one child. why did the family travel to germany (i'm assuming they did because this is where their son was born)
- is it possible to find out how,why and when Schultatus Nicolaus H v Zweel came to South Africa?
- What is the date of birth of Johannes Havinga en Judit Tideman (parents of Schultatus Nicolaus Havinga van Zweel). their marriage information state that they were jongeheer en jongedame at time of marriage.
- i would like to find out what happened to Jan Rudolp Havinga and Gesina Havinga (the other two children of Johannes an Judith) and when did they die.
- did Jan Rudolph and Gesina have any children?
- Johannes was a Predikant, i would like to find out which denomination and for how long. where did he study. who was his parents, where was he born etc. i have no further information about Johannes Havings.
- also i would like to find out whether there are any photos of Johannes Havinga as predikant available anywhere? when and where did he die and what was the cause of death.

Hi,
I only can give you some information to ask your questions:
First, the website of Zweeloo with a picture of the old church from 1252.
http://www.coevorden.nl/web/show/id=126095
you find at the bottom the protestant church from 1252, where (probably) Havinga was the vicar.
Moreover, the municipality of Coevorden counts five societies for local history:
http://www.coevorden.nl/web/show/id=119636
There you find five Societies for local history, also the historical society of Zweeloo. Most historical societies has a projectgroup for genealogy. But they have no e-mail. Perhaps via the others?
