Social Events

The engagements of two of the New York girls who graduated from Spence School yesterday have been announced almost simultaneously with their departure from that fashionable institution. That of Miss Priscilla Kerley, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Charles Gilmore Kerley of 10 East Eighty-first street, to Mr. Myles Tierney, son of Dr. and Mrs. Myles Joseph Tierney of 470 Park avenue, was announced on the eve of her graduation day ?

 

NEW YORK EVENING POST, WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 12, 1924.

PRISCILLA KERLETY Is the first of the girls listed among this year's debutantes to take unto herself a husband.

However, as announcement of her engagement to Myles Tlerney, the youthful son of Dr. and Mrs. Myles J. Tlerney, was made simultaneously with her graduation from Spence School last June, ahe has never been considered among the seaaon's buds.

Her marriage, which takes place this afternoon at 4:30 o'clock at the Colony Club, will be attended by between 280 and 300 guests, who will remain for an informal reception afterward. Father Martin, formerly of St. Patrick's Cathedral, will perform the ceremony.

Mrs. Henry A. Bishop, Jr., the former Gloria Gould, and Priscilla's sister, Barbara, now Mrs. Henry A. Hutchlns, Jr., will be matrons of honor, and the other bridal attendants are Althea Sprague, Katherine Brodhead and Alice West.

Robert Tlerney is his brother's best man and there are no ushers.

On their return from their honeymoon the young couple will make their home at 122 East Fifty-first street.

Dit heeft geen nieuwe info, maar misschien toch wel leuk omdat het indirect te maken heeft met het 'Netherlands National Tourist Office' dat Foeko in 1946 had opgericht:

POSSIBLY THE easiest to spot was Foeko. H. W. Van Der Laan, a huge man who is with the Netherlands National Tourist office. He said many polls place his country at or near the top as a tourist attraction.

"A man from a travel agency once told me that in the flower markets of Aalsmeer we have the finest tourist  attraction in the world," Van Der' Laan said. "Do you know that I lived in my country for 52 years before I saw it myself? You. know how it is, you never bother to look at what's around you. People must live here for years and never visit the White House,"

Van Der Laan said he has done some personal, research on why tourists, and especially GI's. like Holland, but he hasn't come up with many solid conclusions.

"I WAS in a bar once and I saw two GI's with their wonderful boots, and I went over to ask them why they came.

"They said because it?s just like home to us.?

"Naturally I thought they were from the midwest somewhere, but I asked where home was. One said he was from Brooklyn and ihe other said ha was from the Bronx."

Van Der Laan laughed and shook his head in an amazement still strong after several years.

"Brooklyn and the Bronx. Just like home. Very funny, don't you think ??

 

 

PS ik vermoed verder dat Priscilla elke keer is gescheiden. Ze trouwt met Foeko in 1949 en in 1950 blijkt Charles nog te leven bij het huwelijk van hun dochter Sharon en volgens mij heb ik mogelijk de juiste Myles na 1930 ook nog ergens gezien. Ik heb ook het vermoeden dat zowel Charles als Myles auteurs waren.

Deze plaats ligt in de mohawk valley, waar het nederlands tot in de 30 er jaren heeft overleefd. Dit nederlands hangt samen met de "gouden eeuw" emigranten naar nieuw nederland (de hudson valley) een nl kolonie tot 1668. In de regio van af new york tot aan albany zijn nog vele nl sporen uit die tijd en van later. M.n. in een stad als Kingston waar tot 1830 in het nl werd gepreekt.
