still researching the Marcus family  my grandmother Margarethe Florentine Nataly Dehms came from Danzig  to Berlin then to Rotterdam ,Where she married my grandfather Pieter Marcus  in 25-5-1887.

Her family might also have come from Koningsbergen to Danzig  Not sure if that is  in Russia or Poland .

I have tried via computer  to find an office in Danzig . Or Berlin .where evidently some of her family settled . But I can not find anything over here .Maybe some of you knowledgable people can find  me a web site. The reason I started again . I thought I was finished .  But this fantastic digital office in Rotterdam added data of dates of death of both my grandmother and grandfather on the Marcus side Now I am trying to find the exact date of my Grandmother's birth  All I know she was 20 years old when she married granddad . Any thoughts or ideas are most appreciated ..Thanks Olaf Marcus

You say your grandmother married in Rotterdam.

 

When she married there she had tot hand in a birth certicate or a statement with her birthdate signed by an official. These additional papers should be in te Rotterdam Archives, so try to get a copy of these. They may also contain information about her parents. When they were dead by the time your grandmother married, their death certificates had to be handed in as well or statements of the date and place of death..

 

Maybe someone on the forum can check this out for you? Or you can ask at the forum section of te site of the Rotterdam Archives if someone can find these additional papers of the marriage in 1887. Unfortunately they are not online.

 

It is perhaps an easier way tot find her birthdate than a search in Dantzig.

Op 18.10.1863 huwden in Sankt Katharinen Danzig Stadt (Westpreussen) Otto Gottlieb Dehms en Henriette Florentine Langhans.

Haar geboorteacte moet ook bij de huwelijksbijlagen zitten in Rtd.

En dit zouden twee zussen van Henriette Florentine kunnen zijn.

Henriette Amalie huwt op 24.10.1852 en Henriette Friederike op 20.5.1861 in dezelfde Sankt Katharinen in Danzig.

Thanks for the tips. However when I went on the family research ,   an Otto Dehms and a Florentine  Henriette Langhans married in 1863  notice. and the birth notice  of 2 children  1 Johanna Catharine on 6-9-1864 and 1 Kaethe Beata on 7-3-1869.   But no Margarethe Florentine Nataly .Who would be in between these 2 .since I know she was 20 in 1887. The dates of these people do seem right .

allthough there are some spelling difference . And there is also not a mention of the name Adolf as a third given name to Otto .which is strange .  Germany has always been know as keeping very good records  And precise ..But I assume the research organisations can only be as good as what has been given to them .And most likely a lot of records were lost during the war . I do know that my grandmother had siblings who stayed in Berlin .She evidently came to Holland as a Nanny.not sure when  . thanks for the try .
