Pieter Butter - born in or nearby to Rotterdam about 1892. He had a sister, name unknown, who lived in the 20th century in the Hague. Pieter worked the Holland America shipping/cruise line. In the 1917 - 1920 time, he jumped ship in New York harbor, married (1919?) & settled in NYC. His son - George Nicholis Butter (march 1920) - was my father. I'm waiting for the digitized Holland America line passenger & crew names & dates to be completed. I'm not sure the family name was Butter, perhaps Botter? I know nothng further about Pieter except his death in 1944, since he became estranged from his family in the 1930's in New York.

Could this be him with his parents and sisters? link
Edit: Sister Willemijntje did live in Den Haag, search here.
See here for the later card at Rotterdam for Pieter, and note the subsequent scan which shows the back of the card where it says he moved to New York in 1915.
Kijk eens in "Google" via: "Klaas Butter" Koster
I found a Pieter Butter who was born on 28 January 1892 in Waddinxveen (25-30 km north-east of Rotterdam). Click here for his birth certificate (record 12).
He is the same person as Peter S. found.
thank you for looking up this record for me!

Peter:
The 3rd name on Jan's record - Johanna with a birth date in 1917 - is this Jan & Willemijntje's child?
thank you!
Now doing a search for Jan Brouwer & Willemijntje Butter's children...
The 3rd name on Jan's record - Johanna with a birth date in 1917 - is this Jan & Willemijntje's child?
Yes, because it gives "dr" = daughter as the relation to the card holder Jan Brouwer.
I gather from their card that the Brouwer family moved to Rheden in 1921.
Jan Brouwer has died at Arnhem in 1959, see here image 328. He lived at Wolfheze (community Renkum).
Jan Brouwer's death notice is here, signed by his relatives (bottom left corner of page).
Willemijntje's death notice can be found here, left column.
Please note the other sister of Pieter, Neeltje Butter, also moved to the Hague and married there. It should be possible for you to find her records at http://denhaag.digitalestamboom.nl
(there note the tabs on the top left corner, click on "zoeken" then enter as familienaam: Butter and voornaam: Neeltje and click on "zoek"; on the 3 records you find, click on a date and then on the blue tab to see the scan). I rather not reproduce the scans here as some contain information on persons who were born less than 100 years ago, which is against the privacy rules on this forum.
In any case, Neeltje's marriage data can be given here:
