I'm seeking assistance in researching the origins of Garrit Frankemeule (variants: Garrit Frankenmeule, Frankemöhle, Vranckenmöle, Gart Frankemeule, or Gerrit Frankemeule). Based on marriage records, he is believed to be the father of two daughters: Anna Maria Frankemeule and Margarita Elisabeth Frankemeule. The family lived in the Achterhoek region of Gelderland during the 18th century, with connections to Eibergen, Groenlo, Winterswijk, and possibly "onder Vreeden" (near Vreden, just across the border).

Any information on Garrit/Gerrit Frankemeule (or variant spellings) would be greatly appreciated — such as baptism, birth, marriage, burial, parents, siblings, or other family details. Clues from church records in Gelderland or nearby German areas are especially welcome!

I've compiled the known information below for context. There may be additional siblings, as several people with similar surnames (Harmen Vranck, Jan Hend. Vrankmeule, Aaltjen Frankemeule, Lysebeth Vrankemeule) appear as baptismal witnesses for the grandchildren, but I have not yet located their marriage records.

Additional observational insight for other researchers: Please bear in mind the 18-year gap between the two marriage records (Anna Maria in 1736 and Margarita Elisabeth in 1754). In the rural Achterhoek region during the 18th century, this aligns with the typical Western European marriage pattern of relatively late first marriages (women often in their mid-20s, men around 27–30), influenced by economic factors like inheritance, farming needs, or household establishment. This gap could suggest the daughters were born roughly 18–20 years apart (e.g., Anna Maria ca. 1710–1715 and Margarita Elisabeth ca. 1733), or possibly indicate one or more unrecorded siblings in between—worth checking for in baptismal records from Eibergen, Groenlo, or nearby parishes.

If anyone recognizes this family or has access to the relevant church books (Eibergen, Groenlo, Winterswijk, or even Vreden), I'd be very grateful for any hints, transcriptions, or suggestions. Thank you in advance for your time and help!

In het in 1975 uitgegeven boekje "Kirche und Kloster Zwillbrock" van Adriaan Roelofs
(Beiträge des Heimatvereins Vreden zur Landes- und Volkskunde, Heft 5) komt onder de
bijlagen een alfabetische lijst op familienamen van de vaders der in Zwillbrock R.K. gedoopten
voor met vermelding van het aantal gedoopten per gezin en van het jaar waarin het eerste kind
uit het gezin werd gedoopt; tevens staat daarbij in vele gevallen de plaats van herkomst
aangegeven.
Voor Winterswijk was de kerk in Zwillbrock vooral van belang voor de vele Rooms Katholieken
in de buurschap Meddo. In de alfabetische lijst komen dan ook vele Meddosche familienamen
(boerderijnamen) voor. De spelling van de familienamen is in het doopboek van Zwillbrock
overigens nogal eens afwijkend van de in Meddo gebruikelijke spelling.
Omdat alle katholieken bij hun huwelijk wel in de gereformeerde trouwboeken van Winterswijk
zijn opgenomen heb ik van alle betrokken gezinnen de huwelijken uit deze trouwboeken
opgezocht.
Uit de genealogische aantekeningen van dokter Das, zoals deze aanwezig zijn in de Openbare
Bibliotheek in Winterswijk, blijkt dat deze inzage zal hebben gehad van het doopboek, dat
destijds nog in het Pfarrhaus te Zwillbrock werd bewaard en daar kon worden ingezien. Bij
dokter Das komen verspreid her en der aantekeningen van gedoopten in Zwillbrock voor, maar
niet alle gedoopten uit Meddo zijn op die manier terug te vinden.

A leap in time, but I may have identified Garrit's / Gerrits grandfather. Since Anna Maria's birth can be estimated around 1710/1715, Garrits birth can be estimated about 1685. His father around 1655, and his grandfather around 1625.

Which makes the following marriage very interesting:

Going through this entire thread for common names and possibilities, I've pieced together some records and hypotheses. I'd appreciate any insights or corrections from the group.

Bart's hypothesis on Gerrit and Harmen from Almen/Vorden:

These NDG (non-RK) records may be of interest, though they represent a bit of a long shot. "Wijntjesvoord" could refer to a homestead where Gerrit (who fled Vreeden) or his descendants lived:Almen, 30 Dec 1666: GERRIT, [s.] van Harmen op den Wijntjesvoort onder Vorden.  

Almen, 12 Aug 1714: HARMEN, soon van Garrit op den Wijntiesvoord onder Vorden de wijl aldaer een proponent predikte. [Harmen supposed brother to Anna Maria and Margarita Elisabeth].

This Gerrit could potentially be the same "Garrit Franckemeulen" who became a burger in Zutphen on 10 April 1697 (from Vorden), as found by Anje B.

It's conceivable that this Anna Maria Frankemeulen (1715/1716) is the same Anna Maria Fran(c)kemole / Franke / Francter / Marija Frankemeule who married Berent te Nijenhuis on 29 April 1736 in Eibergen (Trouwboek Eibergen).

Margarita Elisabeth Frankemeule (1754 Marriage):

From Trouwboek Groenlo: "d. 18 augustus 1754 - Harmen Halderit, soon van Tube Halderit en Margarita Elisabeth Frankemeule, dogter van Garrit Frankemeule, beide alhier."  Margarita Elisabeth (possibly born 1732) married Harmen Tobiaszn Halderiet in 1754. Upon reflection, I do not believe she was a sibling of Anna Maria Frankemeulen. Their estimated birth dates have too wide a gap, and Margarita wasn't born yet when the 1715 Weeskamer records mention Anna Maria and Albartus.  Anna Maria could be an aunt or distant relative of Margarita Elisabeth. Unfortunately, I can find no further trace of Garrit Frankemeule (Margarita's father) before or after her 1754 marriage — no marriage or burial records in the available sources.

Preliminary Thoughts:

The Garrit Frankemeule from 1697 (burger in Zutphen, from Vorden) and presumed father of Albartus, Anna Maria, and possibly Harmen does not appear to be the father of Margarita Elisabeth (named in 1754). Chronologically, it doesn't align, and there's a significant record gap for Garrit Frankemeule.  

Perhaps the earlier Garrit is a distant relative of Margarita's Garrit, but the link remains elusive. It now seems the issue has been resolved as two separate family branches.

=> No. These are different generations as the 1715/1716 Weeskamer records appear to refer to the late Anna Maria Franckemeule

Re: "...Homestead..." 

=> What I have found is a homestead called "Mossel" which is located under or close to 'Wijntjesvoord'. Mossel is where "Berent te Mosel", the father of "Marie Bernsen" farmed. Marie married in 1644 "Gerrit Harmensen, sone van salige Harmen te Vrancken Molle", who fled Vreden

So that adds up imho. But no conclusive evidence. The hypothesis further is that this Gerrit(1) Harmensen is grandfather to the Gerrit/Garrit(2) you are inquiring about, where the obvious missing link is that Gerrit (1) had a son called Harmen. Plausible, but no proof. This Harmen (te Wijntjesvoord) is father to a Gerrit (te Wijntjesvoord), that's a fact. The hypothesis further is that Harmen Wijntjesvoord = Harmen Frankemeulen (no proof, but plausible since he lived in Kranenburg which is less that 500 yards from Wijntjesvoord). Hence then Garrit Wijntjesvoord would be the same person as (your) Garrit Frankemeulen (the same as 1697 Zutphen, which also makes a link to Almen less unlikely imho)

For the rest: I formulated an hypothesis that imho is plausible. There is as of yet no proof, only some circumstancial evidence, while timeline and topography seem to add up, or at least are not quite impossible. But I may easily have overlooked 1 or 2 factors that may disprove this hypothesis, and indeed I also invite readers and/or contributers to criticize.

Garrit Frankemeule baptized 8 Feb 1666 (Almen, s. van Harmen op den Wijntjesvoort) would have been ~66 years old at the estimated birth of Margarita Elisabeth (1732) and **88 years old** at her marriage in 1754 (Trouwboek Groenlo: daughter of Garrit Frankemeule, no "van wijlen").

While it's not impossible for a man to father a child in his mid-60s (especially with a late second marriage), it is statistically quite rare in this period and region. Without a baptism record for Margarita or a marriage record for Garrit showing a late union, the age gap feels like a significant stretch.

Given that:

The 1715/1716 Zutphen Weeskamer records already show an Anna Maria and Albartus (likely from the 1697 Zutphen burger Garrit branch),
And Margarita wasn't born until ~1732, I lean toward the 1666 Garrit (and the 1697 Zutphen Garrit) being more likely a grandfather, uncle, or cousin to the 1754 mention of Garrit, rather than the direct father.

The missing link (a baptism or marriage for the 1754 Garrit) is still the biggest gap. Until we find that, or a record showing Garrit (1666) fathering children very late in life, I think we need to treat the direct father-son connection as circumstantial rather than proven.

Does anyone have thoughts on where to look next for a baptism ~1725–1735 in Vorden/Groenlo for Margarita, or a late marriage for Garrit? Any unindexed DTB, notarial, or land records for Kranenburg/Mossel/Wijntjesvoord might help close this.

I agree with your observations and analysis. And with the qualification 'significant stretch'

One point needs to be considered as well I think. Is there any real indication of when Margarita Elisabeth was born, her real age, apart from an approximate year derived from when she married? Could it be that she married lets say aged 32 and so gave birth for the last time age ~42? That would be not exceptional at all, and make Garrit father his youngest child aged mid-50's instead of mid-60's. Much more likely. Then you are only left with Garrit being mentionned in 1754 without the word 'late', or in other words, a man that probably lived to the age of 88 years. Which is statistically rather unlikely, but far from impossible.

Anyways, we need (a lot) more data to prove or disprove the hypothesis. I am not really intimate with any sources that would potentially yield the data you need, so I'll leave any advice on that to others.

@Bart: Thank you for pointing out the age question regarding Margarita Elisabeth Frankemeule’s estimated birth (~1732) and marriage (1754). You’re absolutely right — the 21-year-old rule was just a default estimate on my part, not a firm date. I’ve searched the Dutch Reformed baptism registers for Groenlo and Winterswijk without finding a matching entry, so it’s possible I overlooked something or the record is missing/unindexed.

Your suggestion that Margarita could have been older at marriage (e.g., 32, giving birth up to ~42) is very reasonable — that would make Garrit fathering her in his mid-50s instead of mid-60s, which is much more common and statistically plausible. The 1754 marriage record lists both fathers’ names, but uses “van wijlen” for neither the bride’s father (Garrit Frankemeule) nor the groom’s father (Toebe ten Oosterdorp). Upon further review, Toebe was deceased (buried 14 November 1727 in Winterswijk), yet “van wijlen” was omitted for him as well. This suggests the scribe may not have consistently recorded the phrase even when a father was deceased, so it’s conceivable Garrit was also deceased by 1754 (but not noted), or he was still living. Either way, it leaves the timeline more open than I initially thought.

@Anje B.: Thank you for locating the baptism of Wilhelmina, kind van Gerrit Franken Meelen - Janna Willems, 15 Jan 1702 (Predikant Vonk). That’s a valuable find.

Michaël Boers posted a 1726 Zutphen marriage: Jurrien Harmens (j.m. van Steenderen) and Willemina Frankemeulen (j.d., both living alhier), married 2 Jun 1726 in the Grote Kerk. This could tie to Anje B.’s Wilhelmina baptism — another potential link in the family cluster.

In sum, I have no doubt that my direct ancestors are connected to the core Frankemeule families you’ve identified. The challenge remains finding the documentation to link it all together definitively. The timeline for Garrit (1666 baptism) as father of Margarita (~1732) still feels like a stretch without proof of late fatherhood, but the name rarity, topography, and witness overlaps make the extended family connection very plausible.
