She may also be known as Marie Elisabeth and married Wilhelmus Petrus Vroumendelver on 18 Dec 1915 in Pasoerean. They had 2 children - Antoinette Elisabeth in 1918 and Hans in 1920.They divorced in June 1936 in Pasoerean. This lady is definitely the sister of Henrietta Otterine Morbeck and the "Tante Elly" my father in law talks about. I have seen her on the "Vroumendelver Family Tree" and you would think from the photo that she is a twin of my father in law's mother but they have no parents listed for her. With your resources, I hope you can help me again and I can finally be absolutely sure who were Henrietta's parents.

Thank you

Libby

About her husband: his last name was Vrouwenvelder, not Vroumendelver. Their son Hans Vrouwenvelder was my grandmother's brother-in-law.

See my website. You'll find photos of the family there, including Elisabeth Marie Morbeck.

You could ask Joop Vrouwenvelder, owner of www.vrouwenvelder.org if he knows anything about Elisabeth, but I'm sure forum members will have a look into their sources too (I will).

In the Regeringsalmanak you can find a Henri Morbeck, living in Pasoeroean, "logementhouder" (inn keeper) there and later called owner of Marine Hotel "Hotel Morbeck", all in Pasaroean. Henri was born 2 Dec. 1866 in Pasoeroean (RA 1868, p. A49).

On the 27th of March 1890 Henri Morbeck marries Johanna Maria Elisabeth Leijder in Kediri (RA 1891, p. 280).

My best quick guess would be that Henri Morbeck and Johanna Maria Elisabeth Leijder were the parents of Elisabeth Marie/Marie Elisabeth Morbeck.

The first Morbeck in the Regeringsalmanak is Henricus Josephus Anthonius Morbeck (see RA 1866, p. 102). He could be the father of Henri Morbeck. In RA 1918, p. A700 there's a listing of "Wed. Hotelhouder H.J.A. - geb. S. Terneus), so S. Terneus could be the mother of Henri Morbeck.

Volgens de regeringsalmanak is haar naam bij geboorte Marie Elisabeth Morbeck. Haar geboortedatum is 20-02-1895  te Pasourouan. Zij is overleden 29-09-1936 in Soerabaja (familieadvertentie).

Mogelijk ouderpaar:

27-03-1890 huwelijk te Kediri van Henri Morbeck met Johanna Maria Elisabeth Leijder.

Henri woonde ten tijde van de geboorte van Marie Elisabeth in Pasoeroean. Dit echtpaar runde een hotel.

Thank you Dennis. I know that Henri ran the Morbeck Hotel and my father in law says it was his  grandfather's. I had assumed that Henri and Johanna were Henrietta's parents and the photo on Joop's site is a mirror image of Henrietta but nobody has ever been able to prove this 100%. My father in law keeps calling his grandmother "Indonesian" i.e. Coloured. It is obvious from the photos of Henrietta and Marie that they do have "native blood" and I know Johanna was born in Patti but no acknowledgement of being "native".He also says they used to call his grandmother "Chum" - this I probably have wrong and with his accent and his elderly state, I may not be hearing it correctly. Finding Marie today I thought I would be able to find out for sure where the Indonesian part came in. He also told me that Marie was "darker" than his mother, which is true on the photo. He was particularly fond of Tante Elly and I am pleased I found her. The dark colouring does come out in my own sons, particularly in the Summer.

Thank you all. The photos are amazing as they look like twins and apparently were very very close. My father in law will be thrilled with these photos. We have many of Henrietta if anybody is doing the Morbeck side and I can finally feel confident about the parentage of his mother.
