Her parents were Lodewyk “Louis” Malfroid and Virginia Hoebeeck. John immigrated first to Canada on March 21, 1911. He was listed as alone and 29 years old. He was traveling with his brother-in-law Donatus Malfroid.  They were traveling on the vessel “Mount Temple”. They landed in St. John Newfoundland and Mary Canada on March 21, 1911.   He was described as 5 ft. 10 in. tall, fair skin, blue eyes, and brown hair. The language he spoke was Flemish and he was born in Belgium. His distinguishing marks were listed as 3 fingernails disfigured. His religion was listed as Roman Catholic.

They had two children in Belgium Virginia Marie Braem was born on August 18, 1909 in Nieuwerkerken, Belgium. and Charles Louis Braem who was born on December 12, 1910 in Nieuwerkerken, East Flanders, Belgium.  He died on June 6, 1911 in Belgium. He was 5 months old.

I have not been able to find the cemetery for him.

Can anyone help me know about their lives in Belgium.

Thank you,

Susan

following up from yesterday...

Scholastica D’haeseleer was born in the Kerkwijk, Nieuwerkerken, on “Nivôse 6th in the 11th year of the Republic” – the Belgians had adopted the Napoleontic calendar – which equates to 27.12.1802 as daughter of Joannes Baptiste D’haeseleer & Anna Catharina Philips [here]

Her 1st marriage was on 02.05.1832 in Nieuwerkerken:

Henricus Lievens, age 34, linnen weaver, son of Petrus Lievens, farmer living in Nieuwerkerken, and of Catharina Meert & Scholastica Dhaeseleer, maid, age 29, daughter of Joannes Baptista Dhaeseleer, and of Anna Catharina Philips, deceased in Nieuwerkerken 02.04.1828 [here, page 5]

11.02.1833 - Philemond Lievens, born in Nieuwerkerken [here]

15.10.1834 - Felicitas Lievens, born in Nieuwerkerken [here] (she was born 4 months after her father passed away)

her second marriage with your ancestor Franciscus Braem was on 20.05.1835 as well in Nieuwerkerken:

Franciscus' 1st marriage was on 08.07.1808 in Nieuwerkerken (in the time of the French empire, so the records and the names are now in French):

Francois Braem, age 25, born in Haeltert on 27.09.1782, weaver, living in Nieuwerkerken, son of Jaques Braem, weaver living in Kerkxken, and of Catherina van Ghert, born in Iddergem, deceased & Cecile Morauw, age 32, born in Nieuwerkerken 25.11.1775, daughter of Jean Morauw, farmer deceased, and of Maria Catherine Baetens, born in Nieuwerkerken, deceased [here, page 5]

18.08.1809 - Jean Braem, born in Nieuwerkerken [here]; deceased 28.05.1832 [here]

27.02.1810 - Gillis Braem, born in Nieuwerkerken [here]; deceased as Egidius Braem 02.12.1838 [here]

Franciscus 1st spouse died on 05.01.1832 in Pijpenbeek: Cecilia Morauw, age 55, spinster, born in Nieuwerkerke, daughter of Petrus Joannes Morauw and of Catharina Baetens, both deceased [here]

I haven't been able to find out (yet) what happened to the first son called Joseph, who was born in 1813; I would presume he passed away before in 1839 the second Josephus was born...

Thank you again for all the wonderful information! Are we related?   Do you know when Josephus Braem died?  or know where I can see a copy of my great grandparents marriage information?

Thanks again.
