Hello,

Please forgive my writing in English. I cannot write in Dutch. But I hope someone can help me with this military record.

http://www.gahetna.nl/collectie/archief/inventaris/gahetnascan/eadid/2.10.50/inventarisnr/422/afbeelding/NL-HaNA_2.10.50_422_0164

This link is to the KNIL military service record of David Tans who served from 1934 to 1950 more or less. I can understand most of it, but I have several questions about parts I do not understand.

1.  In the red text in the first column I see he received the Silver Medal.  But what does this portion mean?  "bij bsk. Minuor M.P.Z."

2. What are the meaning of these ranks?  "militie brigadier" and also "militie brigadier titulair"

3. Can you read and explain the handwritten text at the bottom of column 2 following the date 10 Juni 1949?

4. Column 3: What is the meaning of the first line?  "Sm. L. J. D."  (I may read those words wrong)

5. Column 3. What is the meaning of the second entry that begins "V37 dd 30.12.'50 ...."

6. Column 3. What is the meaning of the line that begins "Bi Rib 44 ....

7. Column 3. What is the meaning of the hand written text on the right immediately after "14.6.57."

8. Column 3. What is the meaning of the line "m.i.v. 26 Juli 1950."

9. Column 3. Can you explain the line begining with an unreadable word and ending "een voortd."

10. Column 3. In the line that begins with " * Ingetr bij" what does is the meaning of "bij M.B. 6"

11. Column 3. What is the meaning of the last line?  "Voll. Stb. 71632"

12. Below column 2, what is the meaning of the handwritten text? It begins "Bij R. ...."

13. Does anything here refer to the fact he was taken prisoner by the Japanese and was held in a prison camp?

Thank you very much for helping me understand the military words and the difficult script.

Thank you Ben, this is extremely helpful.

The only significant part I still do not understand is that portion of column 3 that seems to read "m.i.v. 26 July 1950 xxxx een voortd."

If you or anyone can suggest what that means, it would be great.

Again, thank you very much.

Best regards, Gordon

I hope, this will help you:

  • (met beperkende bepaling zie in beschikking onder a en b) een voortdurend Pensioen van Fl 145,- s 'maands v.d (verlaten dienst?) (opheffing KNIL)

He leaves the KNIL  and he got a new job in the Royal Airforce. That is the reason his retirementpension was postponed.

Another point: there is a -volledig stamboek nr 71632-  available. This a description of all his activities during his active period in the army. But unfortunately not yet on-line available.

Kind regards, Ben

Do you have the obituary of David Tans (1961, Nunspeet)?

And his marriage in the newspaper? https://www.delpher.nl/nl/kranten/results?coll=ddd&query=%28Tans+prox+Bongers%29&facets%5Btype%5D%5B%5D=familiebericht&sortfield=date
