Morning there! Or is it afternoon?

I haven't got a clue where the name Vernhout may actually come from. If it is derived from Farrensout then I'm even more at a loss. As for them changing their name... Names often were written down as they were heard and as the clerk thought they had be written.

Maria Wesselink came from Dalfsen, yet it is not stated that she came from there. Just that the bans were issued there too and that they married there. So there must (have) be(en) a registration in Dalfsen to that effect and that then may tell us where Hendrik Farrensout came from.

I had found this one in the Zwolle Trouwboek:

03-11-1685 Marten van Delden j.m. in de Lutteke straet en
Janna van Brevoort j.d. op't water
Peter Berents van Delden j.m. tegen over 't Weeshuis en
Willemtjen Hermans Wesselink j.d. tot Dalfsen
De proclamatien moeten mede te Dalsfen gaen
att. gegeven na Dalfsen.

Which can be found in Dalfsen as:

1685-10-18 1685-11-29 Peter Berents Delden van j.m. Willempje Hermans Wesselinck j.d.

http://www.ouddalfsen.nl/uploads/Trouwboek%20Dalfsen%20NG%201679-1811.pdf

and her brother getting married again:

Den 28 Julij 1714
Harmanus Wesselink wednaar
Vroutien Eelevelt j.d. tot Vledder
Proclamatie mede te Vledder
attestatie gegeven na Vledder op den 16 aug. 1714

and then they continue to have five children, four times Hermanus and one Hendrik.

This is probably their sister:

18-10-1698
 Jan Ten Hagen wed:
Sijsijlija Wesseling j.d.
SG Jan ter Horst
HG de suster
[hij] moet Erffuijting doen

Hendrik Vernhout's name crops up in the Zwolle Trouwboek a few times as ''roededrager''. So he wasn't an unknown quantity there.

I don't know whether Hendrik and Maria actually lived here at the time of their marriage:

Hendrik Farrensout j.m. bij de Heer Secretaris Haeke en
Maria Wesselinks j.d. bij de Heer Entfanger Wijcherlink

or whether they worked there. My guess would be that they were living there, as almost always the addresses of the intended would be given.

The name Wesselink is (still) around in Dalfsen (google it).

Jannetje Dwars?

Hi there. Sorry that I didn't get bak to you yesterday. I had pretty full day and by the time I got home, was too bushed to get behind the computer.

I have searched Dalfsen for Wesselink and possible Vernhout ancestors but couldn't find a Vernhout. That's why I think that originally he may have had another family name. It was quite legal in those days and occured quite often. I don't mean the spelling of a persons name as I realize that was totally reliant on the registrars command of the Dutch language. And you're right, there does not appear to be any other Vernhouts anywhere except for in Zwolle. That's suspicious in itself. We will probably never get to the bottom of this one either.

By the way, I have as parents of Maria Wesselink Hermannus Wesselink and Geertje ( Geertijn) Gerrits.

Hello Kitty and Hans, my mailbox is overloaded because of you two! But reading all your messages I become confused which person fits in which family and where, and names that I cannot relate to Jannetje.

So how about her?

Personally I do not think that she is jewish. You know that children are jewish because the mother is jewish.

And if she was jewish at least one of her children would have a (more or less) jewish first name.

But it is worth looking into it.

Maybe this site can help you, I follow the search very interested.

Hallo Marian. As you have probably worked out, Hans had asked me to consider that Jannetje Dwars may have been Jewish and with that produced an amazing amount of posts which are truly worth considering.  So far, we do have a lot of lose ends but who knows, thorough research and we may tie it all up into a bow.  After all, it is very possible that she was of the Jewish faith if Hans's theories are anything to go by. I also now think it is worth considering that she may even have been a Catholic. Or perhaps she was christened at an adult age......

Whether or not we will ever get to the bottom of all of this is another story but I am keen to continue with the hunt for Jannetje. Right now, I dont want to discard anything.

As for the posts regarding the Fernouts, disregard those as they don't have anything to do with Jannetje Dwars. It was just Hans and I discussing ancestors whom we may have in common.  His Catarina Fernout is also a lose end at the moment but has to fit in there somewhere.

Regards Kitty

What a coincidence! Johanna Chrijstina de Heer Kloots is related to me on my father's side of the family tree. And to think this thread began with Jannetje Dwars who is my maternal 3x great grandmother. It's a small world after all!!

We're all one big, big family, Kitty!

By the way, I found another loose end of Fernhouts: http://www.reocities.com/hiskring/nieuwe_pagina_39.htm

I suspect that they're related some way (the name Jurjen/Jurriaan is also used in Zwolle).

And to confuse things even more I found this one the other day:
