Waarom zou Hendrick Jans (opeens ?) Doornbos aan zijn naam toevoegen ? Omdat hij schepen was?

De info van Saskia van ruim een jaar geleden komt overeen met de info van Ann Schlitt. hierboven

Thank you for all your comments.  I know my information is all guesswork, but there is so little documentation for this time period in Heemskerk and some of its neighboring villages,  I was hoping somebody might have found other sources in the meantime.

The name Hendrik Jans is fine for family and a small village, but a professional person like a lawyer or politician needs to deal with a much larger community.  There were probably hundreds of Hendrik Jans's in this region, so a more distinctive name was needed.  Hendrik chose Doornbos.  He may or may not be related to the other Doornbos's we mentioned.  Without better documents, we may never know.  That's my theory, anyway.

I wonder what happened to the NH registers for this time period.  Most other Dutch cities have them going back to the early or mid-1600's, but Heemskerk starts at 1734.  Perhaps they are still hidden away somewhere...
