My Grandfather Joannes Wenting born abt 1750 in Elten,  according to his death certificate in 1826 in Duiven, Oud Zevenaar. 40+ years ago my father hired a lawyer to find our 4 X great grandmother Hendrina. The lawyer gave my father a whole lot of false information about her and her family, for which my dad paid dearly for. Our Hendrina, Daughter of above mentioned was in born 1781, and apparently died somewhere in Amsterdam (also can not find). 

 My father heard stories growing up that Hendrina's parents died in a fire and she was raised by an uncle and aunt. I know that was not true for her, because I found her father and mother who were very much alive and raised her and many siblings. But I was thinking that it was her father my 5x great grandfather mentioned above that the story may have applied too, and because my father was a young child may have misinterpreted that information. Joannes's marriage certificate to Joanna Westhoff in 1777 doesn't show any witnesses so no clues there for me to research. I have research Lower Elten, Elten in Kleve,Westfalen, Prussia and a few others. So I guess I need to know if anyone has any other suggestions, where I might find info if any records were kept in those days of fires, other church records of birth certificate, places he may have lived before oud Zevenaar ect or am I beating a dead horse as the saying goes.

Joannes Wenting en Joanna Westhoff huwden op 28.8.1777 (RK) in Oud Zevenaar - en hun dochter Hendrina werd aldaar op 10.11.1781 gedoopt.

De eerste drie kinderen van het echtpaar Wenting x Westhoff - met de getuigen:
Joannes (16.12.1777) (Joes Westhoff en Maria Bronckhorst) - Theodora (1.10.1779) (Derck Jansen en  Helena Westhoff) - Hendrina (10.11.1781) (Joannes Visser en Theodora Westhoff). Er zijn meer kinderen.
 

De oudste zoon heette Joannes. Dit doet vermoeden dat de vader van Joannes Wentink ook Joannes heette. De naam Wenting werd ten tijde van de doop van Joannes Wentink mogelijk nog niet gebruikt. Het is dus denkbaar dat de doopgetuige Derck (= Theodorus) Janssen een broer was van de vader. Verder werd in het algemeen de tweede dochter vernoemd naar de oma van vaders kant. In dit geval dus Hendrina. De ouders van Joannes Wenting zouden dus Joannes en Hendrina kunnen heten.

In 1783 lijkt nogmaals een Hendrina gedoopt te zijn, maar ik heb de inschrijving niet bekeken.

Handig is misschien om eerst uit te zoeken wie de ouders van Joanna Westhoff waren. Zij had mogelijk broers/zussen Joannes, Maria en Helena Westhoff. En misschien nog wel meer broers en zussen, maar dan hebben we ook de namen van de andere kinderen en doopgetuigen nodig.

Bij de doopgetuigen later ook nog een Wilhelmus Jansen (dacht ik). En een Henricus Wenting.

Ik zie in het doopregister dat daar ook de achternaam Menting voorkomt (Gerardus). Bij het indexeren zouden beide namen eventueel door elkaar gehaald kunnen worden.

De beide getuigen Joannes Visser en Helena Westhoff huwen op 6.5.1780 in Groessen.

In 1783 lijkt nogmaals een Hendrina gedoopt te zijn, maar ik heb de inschrijving niet bekeken.

Ik heb de inschrijving even bekeken, er wordt een Anna gedoopt. De volgens de index ook gedoopte Hendrina Wenting is een van de getuigen. (Ik heb dit aan het Gelders Archief doorgegeven)

Joanna Westhoff is gedoopt te Oud-Zevenaar op 9-6-1757, dochter van Theodorus Westhoff en Joanna de Baeij. Zij hebben ook een dochter Helena, gedoopt 4-10-1750 en zoon Joannes, gedoopt 22-11-1752. Een Theodora Westhoff wordt gedoopt in1741, maar met andere moeder. (Een Hermina de Baeij is doopgetuige bij een van de kinderen van Joanna Westhoff en Joannes Wenting)

Yes, Thank you I also discovered that,  at first I thought maybe twins but then realized it was a mistake. Hendrina was a witness not another child

A suggestion:

When you search through the files of wiewaswie.nl (use the English version when entered) using the name Joanna Westhoff, you can find lots of information. 
Using the search with just the name Westhoff and you find all Westhoff's in Holland.
Select Place and you find the first entry of a Geertje Westhoff. Select Place one more the first entry is a place named Zwollekerspel. Scrol downwards and click on the three dots of the number of the pages. Then type page 66. You find 4 pages of Westhoff living in Oud Zevenaar.

I guess you find lots of relatives of your ancestor Joanna Westhoff.

You can also excercise these actions using the name Wentink. Data is find from page 107.

Joannes Wenting born abt 1750 married to Joanna Westhoff born 1757 to Theodorus Westhoff and Joanna de Baeij Witnesses to her birth were Joannes van Alen, Joannes Westhoff and Christina Menting. They were married Aug 28th, 1777 in Oud Zevenaar

Joannes death recorded as witnessed and signed of by his son Theordorus (Derk) states

 I have all the records of children born and most of their death records including my 5x great Grandmother Joanna Westhoff and beyond.

I have been focus for about two years now trying to find the birth on my 5 X Paternal Grandfather Joannes Wenting. 

Also the death on my Grandmother his daughter Hendrina who's Illegitimate child Joannes Wenting is my 3x Paternal Grandfather. She apparently according to court documents died in a Hospital in Amsterdam. Witnesses to her death were her sister Anna (Hanna) , Frans Goris, Everardus Mattijssen and his son Gerardus Everardus Mattijssen. The 3rd witness helped raise my 3x Great Grandfather until he went into the military and his mother my Grandmother Hendrina was a servant for him. I can not find any records of census where she may have been listed under his household or any of the witnesses. Her name was often mispelled as Hendrika Wentink 

In 's-Gravenhage trouwen op 29-10-1834 Johannes Baptiste Verbracken en Catharina Wenting, dochter van Johannes Wenting en Johanna Westhoff. Catharina is geboren te Oud-Zevenaar en is 28 jaar oud, wat zou betekenen dat zij is geboren 1805-1806. Zij is dus veel jonger dan haar broers en zussen en haar moeder Joanna Westhoff zou bij haar geboorte 48 of 49 jaar oud zijn geweest. Er is blijkbaar geen doopbewijs van Catharina, want ze toont een akte van bekendheid. Beetje vreemd is dit wel. Catharina was born 18 Oct 1802 in Oud Zevenaar to Hendrina Wenting at the age 21 she was Hendrina's first illegitimate child. I have the thought that Hendrina could not care for this child so she was raised as a child of her Grandparents Joannes Wenting and Joanna Westhoff. not sure what the birth certificate says as I am not able to decipher the writing as to the re;ationship of the name parents? Joannes Hermsen pater and followed by a few words the Hendrina Wenting. witnessed by Joannes Wenting, Joanna Thuss, and Joanna? Wenting. Hendrina's second Illegimate son Joannes was my 3x Great Grandfather born 1811 and her 3rd illegimate child Petronella was born in Arnhem in the house of her sister Anna's In-laws house Peter van Doornik and  Gerturida Berentzen and reported by the mid wife. Petronella live in Rotterdam and was married twice. i'm assuming Hendrina took her with her when she moved to the Amsterdam area perhaps around the time that Petronella was born. I found a record of her first marriage that was witnessed and mentions her brother my 3x Great Grandfather and he signed the document which I was able to confirm with samples of his signature on other documents and his birth year was the same.

In de doopinschrijving van 18-10-1802 staat het volgende: Catharina. Jo[ann]es Hermsen pater ut dicit mater Hendrina Wenting (de moeder Hendrina Wenting zegt dat ene Joannes Hermsen de vader van Catharina is). [getuigen] Jo[ann]es Wenting et Jo[ann]a Thuss Jo[ann]a Wenting.
