Dear friends,
Who can be of help with this problem:
May-1-1849 leaving from Hellevoetsluis to New York the "Creole" the Hendrik Winkels family born Staphorst 1803 along with his son Jan 1828, Lucas 1830, daughter Jentje 1837, wife Margje Prins 1795-1849 Hellevoetsluis and stephdaughter Margje Raak born 1822.
But.........Margje died before leaving the harbor of Hellevoetsluis.
Hendrik Winkels with his son Lucas 1830 returned to Staphorst!!
But the other children sailed with the "Creole" to America!
Their names again: Jan born 1828; Jentje born 1837 and Margje Raak born 1822.
But....aboard of the "Creole" must for because another family from Staphorst:
The Jan Kuiers 1817 & Hendrikje Dozeman 1820 family with their two sons: Roelof born 1846, Jacob born 1842.
This family stayed in New York at least till 1852.
Their father Jan Kuiers died before 1855 in New York because his wife Hendrikje Dozeman married to Jan Winkels about 1855 in Michigan.
Swieringa books learned me from the 1860 Census the Jan Winkels family had 4 stephchildren:
Roelof 1846-Jacob 1842- Meri (Mary) 1849-Jan 1852. but Jan and Mary are born New York!!
But the surname of the children was spelled KIES instead of Kuiers! according the info of Swieringa
I don,t have any records about Jan Kuiers was leaving Staphorst in 1849.
I can,t understand this problem.
I hope some of you has the opportunity to take a look in the passengerslist of the "Creole" left 1-May-1849
Who can be of help?
Willem
