I'm looking for information of my second-great-grandfather and -mother.
My great-grandmother was Aaltje Stel, born in Semarang on 1855-12-31.
She married Lambert Overink in Semarang on 1875-05-11
She died in Salatiga 1928-02-18
I have a picture of the parents of Aaltje but I don't know their names.
The mother of Aaltje was an Indonesian woman.
Apparently they often went to their "villa" in the mountains of Kopeng SW of Salatiga.
Lambert came to Java somewhere between July 1868 and Feb. 1874. He worked at the mental hospital in Semarang.
On 1881-06-18 Lambert bought some ground: Wijk(area) X n°286a and n° 61 (I suppose this is in Semarang)
Lambert and Aaltje lived on Blakang-kebon in Semarang on 1883-10-31. But I don't know where that is located in Semarang.
Perhaps it is the terrain he bought in 1881.
Lambert and Aaltje had the following children born in Semarang:
- Alice Celestine Overink - 1877-03-03 (died in the Netherlands 1946-02-21)
- Emma Dorothea Amelia Overink - 1878-08-31 (died in Banjoebiroe 1945-01-18)
- Johan Carel George Overink - ? (died as a child on 1883-05-05 in Semarang)
- August Derk Lambert (François) - 1880-01-28 (died in the Bandoeng Soekamiskin prison 1944-10-08)
- Louise Johanna Wilhelmina Overink - 1884-05-17 (died on 1884-10-28 in Semarang)
- Pierre François Leonard - 1885-07-07 (died on 1939-05-20 in Semarang)
- Gertrude Erna - 1888-07-02 (not sure this was in Semarang though) (died in the Netherlands 1916-02-12).
Next there is a child born in the Netherlands and another one in Salatiga.
Pierre François Leonard married Cato Jeanna Hertog in Semarang on 1908-11-09.
I think she was a Indonesian woman, but might also be of mixed parents.
They had 5 children but only the first one was born in Semarang:
- Jules Lambert August on 1909-08-03. He was a prisoner of the Japanese from 1942-03-08 on. We don't know what happened to him afterwards.
The other children were born in Bandoeng.
My Overink family was, as far as I know, the only family with that name in Indonesia at any time. My grandfather, mother and some of my uncles also went there.
As I said in the beginning I'm mostly interested in Aaltje Stel, her father and mother, because till now they are sort of a mystery.
But any information you might have or come across about any Overink in Indonesia is of course welcome.
Or hints on where to search for it.
The full genealogical tree is available at https://www.genealogieonline.nl/en/stamboom-overink/
This includes a photo of Lambert's family in which Aaltje Stel is depicted. And another one of Pierre and his wife Cato.
I'm currently writing a booklet on this part of my family and an electronic public version will be available in the next months.
It is in Dutch but the English title would be "Father and son. The Indonesia-goers."
