Hello everyone. I would appreciate your help with the following translations.

(1) Tabakskerver, (2) Sargeant-schrijver, (3) Schillenophaler, (4) Procuratiehouder, (5) Magazijnbediende, (6) Colporteur, (7) Handelcorrespondent, (8) Kelner, (9) Portier, (10) Aannemer, (11) Olieslager, (12) Zuivelbewerker, (13) Machinezetter, (14) Politierechercheur, (15) Bleeker, (16) Grossier, (17) Fabrikant, (18) Landbouwkundige.

I am very interested in "Schillenophaler." That means potato peelings doesn't it? Why would someone go to get them and would they go from house to house? What were they used for???

Looking forward to hearing from some one soon. Many thanks in advance.

Regards Kitty

I remember the 'Schillenophaler' of 'Schillenboer' as we used to call him from my youth.

He came through the streets with his horse cart and collected the potatoe peelings and raw vegetables from the house holds. As I recall it the farmers bought them to feed their pigs, but I was only a very little girl back then so I may be mistaken about that. Can't remember to have seen them later, when I was a teenager, so in my neighbourhood they must have disappeared in the 1960-ies.

Kelner - waiter (at a restaurant)

Portier - doorman (e.g. at a hotel or an officebuilding)

Olieslager - don't know the right word in English but it is someone who extracts oil from seeds (e.g. flax/sunflower etc.)
