Hello Everyone,
When it comes to some of my Dutch ancestors from North Brabant, particularly those who lived in the early 1800s near Tilburg and Breda, I've run into a snag in my family tree research. Baptism records, marriage certificates, and a few old church registers have allowed me to go back several generations, but I'm having trouble finding reliable information after the 1830s.
Here is some background information on what I currently know:
The two main family names I'm looking into are "Jansen" and "Verhoeven."
Prominent Progenitors: Johannes Jansen, one of my ancestors, was said to have been born in or close to Tilburg in 1802.
Maria Verhoeven, whom I think was from the same area, was his wife.
Records and Occupation: Family stories indicate that Johannes was a farmer, and there are indications that he might have served in a local capacity, though I haven't yet located any military documents to back this up.
I've looked through a few online archives, such as the Digitale Stamboom and WieWasWie, but I'm not positive I'm getting all the information I could. Furthermore, I'm not familiar with Dutch court and notarial records from this time period; does anyone know how to obtain or understand these kinds of records?
Any recommendations for resources, like obscure databases, or advice on how to locate data from smaller North Brabant towns would be greatly appreciated. Any advice on the types of regional variations in record-keeping that could influence searches in North Brabant would also be greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance for your help and support.
Regards
