I would appreciate help with the following: In the Gemeente Amsterdam Stads Archief under "Huiszittenhuizen 1808-1870" there is a document regarding Maria Vernhaut. Could some one please translate the document for me and also explain what "Huiszittenhuizen" means. Many thanks in advance. Greetings from Kitty
Zie "Google" via: "Huiszittenhuizen".
Aha! I didn't think to google it seeing as I was under the impression that it was 3 separate words strung together. So does the document say that the children were taken there AFTER their mother had passed away (their father was still alive and died in 1813) or were they already living there before her death and is there some way of finding out when they were admitted? Once again thank you so much for any help and advice.
Interesting story. Thank you so much Elisabeth. Much appreciated.
bij here dead she was living in the Langestraat, Amsterdam 21-02-1807
Behind her name is mentioned: "van Rolde" or "van Swolde". The marriage certificate mentiones that she came from Zwolle.
Under her name is mentioned: "maart 1807 overleden, de kinderen in het Aalmoezeniershuis". (died March 1807, the children to the Aalmoezeniershuis (=orphanage).
Above this phrase is written something else, but I can't read that. It looks like: "Collegiale? ? & Bo?en Ey a". I can't decipher the question marks and I have no idea what it could mean.
Maybe someone else is able to read it. Click here for the document.
And click here for some more information about the "huizenzittenhuizen" (in Dutch).
They lived in their own home and received poor relief from the huizenzittenhuizen. So I think that the children went to the Aalmoezeniershuis after the death of their mother.
Thank you so much every one for your help. I very much appreciate it. Cheers! Kitty

The father apparently left the family. The registration states that she was widow of Dirk vd Hilst. But died 1813.

Here the answere: Met dank aan Tineke Tjoelker.
Daar staat:
"Collegialiter 1 lb Boter etc. "
Dus ze kregen gezamenlijk één pond boter et cetera. Lb is de afkorting voor libra=pond.
"Collegialiter 1 lb Butter etc." So they got together one pound of butter et cetera. Lb is the abbreviation for libra = pound.
